III, 133. – The only German original edition and at the same time one of the earliest material collections on Indian music. "William Jones was the first European to deepen his knowledge of the Sanskrit language in the local music theoretic texts. Although he misunderstood much ... his starting point was the right one. Jones was a genius and inspired many generations of researchers..." (MGG). This German edition only appeared about 10 years after the English edition. Dalberg added essential additions to the English original as a result of "years of authentic news about Indian, Persian, Arab and Chinese music" (MGG). These include an instrument study (p. 66-84 with 3 coppers), the collection of Indostansicher folk melodies after Hamilton Birds in 1789 in Calcutta engraved Airs of Hindostan and a series of 26 copper plates after Rogmala's picturesque synaesthesias of Indian clays. In 1798, Dalberg, a former Jones counterpart, performed the first of these papers in London. At the end contains notes about music and instruments of the South Sea islanders. – A little patchy and with tiny traces of usage otherwise good specimen.
