With 8 systems to 5 lines each in brown sepiatinte. Regulated mirror 19 x 25,6 cm. Format 21,8 x 30,4 cm: Clean notes and texts in italics, both in brown-black ink. With 12 large jewelry initials in recheck frames made of brush gold, decorated with multi-coloured foliage, flower and flowerwork (each approx. 9 x 11.5 cm). Querfolio. Venice 1713. Magnificent clean copy of a small cantata collection by the important Italian Baroque composer Benedetto Giacomo Marcello (1686-1739). Like his great contemporary, Antonion Vivaldi (1678-1741), Marcello was born in Venice, initially entered a legal and advocacy career, but then turned to his passion for music and studied with Francesco Gasparini (1668-1727) and Antonio Lotti (1667-1740). "He always calls himself only one dilettante on his works and still has many works of all kinds. The genre wrote, music only by the side" (Eitner VI, 310f.). However, he founded "his fame in his lifetime", so that he was called "exuberantly principe della musica" (MGG VIII, 1617ff.). The beautifully illuminated manuscript contains twelve secular cantatas ("Cantate secolari" or "Cantata profane"), for soprano and alto, each accompanied by the Basso Continuo. They are among the rare cantatas of the Maestro, all of which do not match the numerous recorded at Eitner. It is therefore a collection that is not known to date in this form and compilation, which Marcello had written down here in a clean copy by a skillful noticing copist. At the beginning, each of the cantatas was provided with the exact date of the composition and decorated with a gold shimmering and colorful flowers permeated prrunkinitiale.
