Wedel (1645-1721) "is one of the more important witnesses of alchemy, by becoming a confessor, like Helvetius, from a doubter" (Schmieder: Alchemie p. 452). He deals with, among other things, objections to the alchemy, basics and experiments of this art, alchemical writers, props, vegetabilic, animal and mineral substances, preliminary and rework, equipment and abuse of alchemies. S. 59 and 60 contain "Tabula Emeraldina Hermetis Trismegisti Incerto interpretere". "Wedel stood midway between medieval and modern world views, defending astrology and alchemy and championing iatrochemistry. He was a trademarkly prolific author, but it was primarily by teaching at one of Germany's largest universities that he influenced a whole generation of physicists, including Hoffmann and Stahl."
