Only part of this classical work for a study generale still published by Morhof himself. Book I: Liber bibliothecarius with an introduction to book and library science as the most important tool of learned studies. Book II: Liber methodicus zur Technik wissenschaftliche Arbeits. Linked to the second part (= book III), published in 1692 posthumously by H. Muhle (1707 finally the Flensburg rector Johann Möller published in 1707 a first attempt to a "complete complete edition", which was extended by a third part. Morhof (1639-91), the most respected professor of the newly founded University of Kiel, already saw in his time the danger that by specialization and independence of the individual sciences the university would cease to be the nursing home of the 'universitas litterarum'. The answer could no longer be a study drowning in the material universal; rather, it was necessary to penetrate the whole of knowledge structured with independent judgment. The present work, which emerged from his lectures, was to serve as a guide, which "was rightly highly admired and much used", which Morhof's reputation "spreaded over the whole of learned Europe" (ADB). – Evenly low tanned, title with partly distant name entry and thus with stamp of the duchy library Sachsen-Meiningen.
