Ukiyo-e Leporello. Privately compiled scrapbook with 37 Japanese woodcuts of various artists, including works by the Utagawa School, after Katsushika Hokusai. 37 x 25,5 cm. Gold speckled broschur d. C. (more loaded at the corners, back cover loose). Japan 1830-1870. Subsequent deductions or reprints. The album combines a selection of the most famous motifs of the Japanese woodcut. Among other things, leaves are represented after Katsushika Hokusais (1760-1849) famous episode "36 Views of Mount Fuji" (Fugaku Sanjurokkei), among them "The Great Wave before Kanagawa", "Heiterer Tag bei Südwind (The Red Fuji)" and "The Fuji of Kajikazawa in Kai Province". In addition, the album contains other landscape representations (Meisho-e), actor portraits of the Kabuki Theatre (Yakushi-e) and genre scenes as well as individual representations of beautiful women (Bijinga). – Strongly browned due to paper, sticky and partly water-wrapped, regarding the representations in places. With kinks, lusures, isolated punctures in the edge area and further signs of wear. Paper bitty in places. Leporello in two parts separated (8 or 29 woodcuts), each connected with a lid.
