Examples of his painting are the Guohua depictions of riding ladies of the Tang Dynasty, which he puts virtuosously with contouring water colours on damp paper, in order to create a fluttering atmosphere in which the equestrians move like schemes. His style is referred to as "boneless painting", as the drawings are not subject to drawings.
