London, Th. Harrison, 1853. Blackmer 1792. – First edition. Rare episode of lithographic views of the Attica region, the coast, the Parthenon and the Acropolis. With descriptions in the accompanying booklet and two maps, on which the places visited by Wickende are marked. In the foreword, the author writes: "A week (the least I could, the most I cared to stay there) was most Happily spent in taking notes for private use, in making rough sketches of points that struck the fancy, and in thinking of the pleasant evenings at home, which give to these outlines, even in expectation, a value not their own. The drawing were made off-hand: sometimes under very unfavorable circumstances, and never had a chance of correction by after visits. Was it a misfortune or lazy, that some of my friends, kind when they might have been critical, induced me to have them copied on stone, hoping that other than those for who they were intended might gain from them some new ideas of the leading features in the scenery of Attica?" – The linen inserts are usually slightly patchy, the lithographs are not affected by it and only occasionally minimally stained; the loose plates with tiny mounting holes in the outer corners. Overall good specimen.
