Gandersheim Abbey, founded in 856, gained its fame through the 10th century. Roswitha von Gandersheim (c. 935 - after 973) was the first German poet to enter the history of literature. A Latin song written by her about the edification of the pen is published for the first time in this volume. Historian Johann Georg Leuckfeld (1668-1726) first studied theology at the University of Leipzig. "In 1700, the Aebtissin appointed him as its secretary at Gandersheim and commissioned him to put the archive of the abbey in order. An innate urge led him to study history in this position, and he was very happy to decipher and analyze old writings that had escaped all the researchers until then. Two years later he became pastor primarius to Gröningen in the semi-city ... His works, all of which are written in German, consist of very detailed descriptions of cities, but especially of convents and monasteries, of biographies of scholars and coins" (ADB). – A little tanned or brownish, otherwise well preserved.
