Graesse I, 62. – Fullest, most comprehensive and most beautiful printed edition of the famous emblem of the Italian humanist and jurist Andrea Alciatus (1492-1550), born in Alzate near Brianza, on Lake Como, enthused by the Graesse: "Voilà l'édition la plus complète des emblèmes d'Alciat" and Landwehr noted: "This is by far the most extensive commentated of Alciati's editions. It was edited by Joannes Thuilius, professor in Freiburg im Breisgau, who combined also the commentsaries by Mignault, Sanchez, and Pignorius." The edition contains 212 numbered emblems, with the first obscene emblem number 80 "Adversus naturam peccantes", which lacked the previous editions, as well as two not numbered by the same sticks as in the edition Padua 1618, now but framed by borders. – Bookblock burst in the middle, resolutions modernly renewed. Some layers in the bow with small moisture margin.
