Schweiger 25. – Second edition of the translation of Johann Friedrich Degens (1752-1836), first published in Ansbach in 1782, dedicated to Christian Gottlob Heyne, the goddess of antiquity. With Greek-German parallel text: "As a writer Degen developed an extremely fruitful and almost polyhistoric activity. Aside from the fact that he made numerous contributions to magazines of the most diverse genre and edited several at times himself, he has also written a considerable number of independent writings, of which it is sufficient to make the following a characteristic of his colorful suffering activity: 'Ueber die Philosophie des (Pseudo) Anakreon', 1776; 'Some Thoughts about the novel, 1777; 'On the election of the wife', 1778; 'on the talking grace', 'Anacreontis carmina', 1681. 1786 and 1808, the same German in 1782 and 1821; 'Herodot's stories translated', 1783-91. 6 Bde" etc. (ADB V, 23). – Title somewhat stained, with faded stamp and small ink signature, fl.
