Gnecchi 1. MIR 893. Friedberg 986. Extremely rare and in exceptional condition for the issue, possibly the finest specimen in private hands. A masterpiece of the Italian numismatic baroque with a wonderful portrait and a superb reverse composition. Good extremely fine NGC MS 62 Top Pop (2190890-001) Antonio Teodoro Trivulzio was Governor of the Duchy of Milan from 1676 until his death in 1678, serving on behalf of the Spanish monarchy. A member of the distinguished Trivulzio family, he belonged to one of Milan's most prominent aristocratic dynasties. The coinage associated with his administration is part of the later Spanish-Milanese monetary series. Trivulzio's tenure was exceptionally brief, and this short period contributes to the scarcity and numismatic interest of pieces associated with his administration. Such coins are especially valuable as historical documents, illustrating the continued Spanish presence in Milan during the final decades of the seventeenth century and the role played by the great Milanese aristocratic families in the government of the duchy.
