It was enlarged in the first half of the nineteenth century. One of the drawings ("North Front") in this collection is signed "J. Pinch, archt.", most likely John Pinch the Younger (1796–1849) who, like Wood, was most active working in Bath and the South-West. During the Second World War the grounds and surrounding farms of the house were used as a military encampment. Provenance: Siegfried Sassoon, who lived at Heytesbury House from 1933 until 1967; thence by descent to the present owner.
