Mr. Norris Changes Trains, FIRST EDITION, AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION COPY TO HIS MOTHER, inscribed "For Mummy with love from Christopher. May 1935" on the front free endpaper, publisher's green cloth (mildew/damp-stains), pictorial dust-jacket (priced "7s.6d.", spine toned with small losses at joint corners) [Woolmer 369], 8vo, Hogarth Press, 1935
FINE ASSOCIATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO HIS MOTHER, Kathleen Bradshaw-Isherwood (1868–1960), with whom he was close. In 1935 he mentioned Mr. Norris in several letters to her, noting in Feburary "I think the jacket is horrible. So stupid and cheap...", and in March that "Mr. N. is certainly getting more appreciation... though I can't say I find any of the critics particularly intelligent in their remarks" (cf. Kathleen and Christopher. Christopher Isherwood's Letters to his Mother, edited by Lisa Colletta, 2005).
Provenance: Alan Pryce-Jones (1908–2000); by descent to the present owner.
