Oil painting, doubled, 62 x 74 cm, signed and dated 1754 u.m. Johann Christian Vollerdt came from Leipzig where he was born in 1708. His teaching period was after he completed his first lessons with Christian Zinck in Leipzig from 1738 onwards influenced by the landscape painter Alexander Thiele. This sensitized the artist to the representation of atmospheric themes. The production of Supraporten for the Count of Brühl for Oberlichenau Castle also falls during this time. The artist's prime focus was always on landscapes, which he mostly idealized and repeatedly combined with seasons, weather or architecture. He was influenced by the Dutch landscape painters of the 17th century. ==References====External links== He got to know the works of these protagonists through intensive studies in the Dresden Gemäldegalerie. With its powerful yet delicate landscape works, Vollerdt is to be mentioned as the forerunner of the sensitive-classicistic view of nature. Already in his lifetime, his river and mountain landscapes found great appeal, especially the far rarer winter impressions. Large-format paintings such as the one offered here are rare and highly sought after by lovers. Even August the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland were thrilled by his landscape paintings.
