Handwritten text of a plague mass, a "Missa pro evitanda mort", which also under the title "Missa pro vidanda mortalitate" or "Misa contra pestem" entrance into the liturgical literature of the 14th and 15th centuries. ==References== With the outbreak of the "Black Death" in 1347, the Avignon exile pope Clemens VI (ca. 1250-1314) codified the text of a votive mass against the plague and the sudden death. The text begins with the "Recordare, Domine, testamenti tui, et dic angelo percutienti...", the central chorale against a pestilence as a pleasurable prayer for preservation from death and destruction. The three unbound parchment octave layers were originally removed from a probably larger context by stitch binding at the top and bottom of the bow to become a manual of the priest.
