Not in the catalog XXXIX of the Antiquariat Geisenheyner (picture books Schreiber Esslingen). – "The new canvas picture books with paint paint are by far the best and most useful thing parents can give their children in their hands; the paint is protected by the paint so that they can be washed off even without damage... They're really incorruptible and indestructible at cheap prices and outbid everything that's been done so far. All materials used for this purpose are completely harmless and free of poison." (publisher's note on the inside cover). Despite these many advantages, the painted canvas picture books by Schreiber, of which at least 28 are detectable, are all quite rare. An illustration with monogram "CE No. 44", behind which ev. Karl Eyth (1856-1929), professor at the Kunstgewerbeschule Karlsruhe, hides (see Ries: Illustration und Illustratoren p. 511). Back cover with illustrated colour print mounted with the poem "Unthought" in the style of Meggendorfer's figures. – In some places slightly browned due to paper, occasionally with small brown spots. Overall good specimen.
