Scratches and runs, very nice Exemplary of the eLive Auction Fritz Rudolf Künker 35, Osnabrück 2015, No. 78; then acquired in November 2020 at Münzhandlung Zulauf, Munich. Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great, came to the government in 359. Soon after his entry into government, he managed to bring the gold and silver-rich Pangaion area under his control, whose annual yield was 1000 talents and enabled him to express the beautiful gold statere, called Philippeioi in ancient times. The front of our piece shows the head of Apollo, the delphic God with whom Philip had a special relationship. ==References== Philip had turned against the Phokers who had robbed the temple treasures in Delphi. The reverse plays on a victory of Philip 356 B.C. ==References====External links==* Official website 3,8.). In creating a connection with Delphi and Olympia on this piece, Philippos II expressed his Panhellenic political program, two places that were sacred to all Greeks. Philippeios was one of the "world coins" of antiquity.
