Description
COINS OF THE ROMAN CAISER TIME. Vespasianus, 69-79 for Domitianus. AV-Aureus, 73/75, Rome; 7.27 g. Head r. with laurel wreath//prince rides l. with raised right and scepter. BMC 124; Calicó 812; Coh. 663; RIC2 679. Tiny. Scratches and test score on the edge, very nice From the collection of a Hanseatic Roman friend. Acquired in 2000 at the Münzgalerie Dieter Grunow, Berlin. Harold Mattingly refers to the role of Domitian in the triumph of Vespasianus and Titus on the occasion of the victory over the insurgent Jews. Sueton reports that Domitian joined them on a white horse. More likely, however, the Revers Domitianus represents simply as princeps iuventutis.
