Of Lowden's compact S-body form, with natural cedar soundboard and walnut back and sides, mahogany neck, dark fingerboard, pinless bridge and decoratively inlaid soundhole rosette. The rosewood-faced headstock bears the Lowden signature logo and is fitted with gold-coloured enclosed tuning machines with amber-effect buttons. Of particular interest is the walnut used in the construction of the back and sides. According to an accompanying handwritten note, the timber was sourced from a tree reportedly blown down during the Great Storm of 1987. The note further suggests that the guitar may have been specially commissioned or produced for a collector, although this has not been independently verified. The S23 was conceived as George Lowden's small-bodied steel-string design, combining a cedar soundboard with walnut back and sides to produce the warm, balanced character for which the model became known. The S23 remains part of Lowden's prestigious Original Series today, with the maker's instruments highly regarded for their craftsmanship, distinctive tonal qualities and careful selection of tonewoods. Interior label inscribed Model No. S23S, Serial No. 5910, bearing the George Lowden signature and marked Handmade in Ireland, with corresponding serial number stamped internally. Together with hard case and accompanying handwritten note relating to the provenance of the walnut timber. Condition: In good used condition overall, with various scratches, small knocks, scuffs and playing marks, particularly to the soundboard. Some wear and tarnishing to the gold-coloured hardware. The tortoiseshell-effect scratchplate shows some surface marking. Appears substantially complete, with no obvious major structural damage visible from the photographs. Neck angle, action, fret wear and playability have not been professionally assessed. Hard case with general wear. Category: Collectables/Musical instruments Estimate: 1200 GBP
