Frauenfigur mit Buchrolle. Canosa, 3. Jh. v. Chr. Female terracotta figure with a scroll. H 35.5cm with stand, 32.5cm without stand. Made of reddish clay with traces of white engobe and painted in pink, violet, green and brown. Moulded on one side, with a firing hole at the back. A standing female figure wearing a chiton and himation. Her right, bare arm is resting on her hip, whilst her left arm, partly concealed by the cloak, is stretched upwards and holds a scroll. She wears a headband adorned with ivy leaves in her hair. The scroll may symbolise a connection to the underworld or characterise the figure as a muse. Caonsa, 3rd century BC. Greenish-brown patina; the left forearm is broken and has been reattached; there is a tiny hole in the lower part of the robe; tiny fragments have been added to the lower hem of the robe.
