Nicolaus de Lyra's Postilla litteralis, the authoritative biblical commentary of the late medieval period, dominated scriptural study through the Reformation and was reprinted repeatedly throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The printer, Anton Koberger, established the first press at Nuremberg in 1470 and as well as being celebrated for the printing of his illustrated bibles, is best remembered for his Nuremberg Chronicle of 1492.
