The chronicle of the Tschachtlan comes from Bern and is the oldest preserved chronicle in Switzerland as well as the first history of the city in German. It was not written for a particular client, but as a private work and was illuminated by the Bernese councillor Benedikt Tschachtlan himself. His chronicle was the first work of its kind, since never before was a world chronicle illustrated with pictures. The young Diebold Schilling, probably the best-known Swiss chronicler, used Tchachtlan's book as the basis for his first work. It is even assumed that he was involved in the creation of the codex. – Very well preserved, only the picture directory with slight traces of usage.
