Prayer book of a Güttlersfrau from the Bavarian Swabian Monheim Spiritual Prayer Book, in which Mogen-Aben receives Mass-Vesper Beich- und Communion, and other various prayers together with the approaching holy Way of the Cross. 1828. German handwriting on paper. 1 p. (title), 393 num. S., 5 nn. Bl. Font space 13 x 7,8 cm. Format 16 x 10,2 cm. German Kurrent in light brown ink, awards in fracture calligraphy. With numerous colorful initials, vignettes, book jewellery and about 12 full-page miniatures. Dark brown-black leather d. Z. (lowly shaded, bumped, slightly picked up) with textured embossing and rich back gilding and gold-plated lid borders (all slightly darkened and shaded) with pretty Kattunpapier attachments. The book was written by a "Güttlersfrau", a small farmer, from the Bavarian-Schwäbischen Monheim in today's district of Donau-Ries, about half way between Nuremberg and Augsburg. That's a later hs. Pencil entry on a white attachment paper: "Ana Maria Handschiel Güttlersfrau in Monheim anno 1818 geschreibten". "Güttler" refers to small landowners among the farmers who had a small estate ("Gütle") but mostly only used agriculture as a side purchase to a trade. The beautiful illustrations show numerous initials, garlands, head and final vignettes as well as full-page cover images or figurative representations of "Maria" and "Jesus", each with a wooden cut mounted in it, and the symbols of the sacraments such as "Leiden's Cup of Jesus", "IHS", "Beicht Gebetter", "This is the Lamb of God who is wägnimb d. Sünd d. w." etc. – Partially with a bit of penetration from the colored illustrations, few color blurs, hardly stained, hardly any signs of use, very well preserved.
