Ethiopia in the middle of the 19th century. ==References== An evocative, almost iconic miniature from an Ethiopian-liturgical book probably the middle of the 19th century. ==References====External links==* Official website* Official website==External links== Two views of the "pantocrator" are depicted on a double sheet, each blessing with raised hands: Left "Christus pantocrattor" as suffering Ecce Homo with two torturers with poles and hammers, which put on him a stylized crown of thorns, while the Saviour himself blessed both hands for the forgiveness of sins. On the right, then, the blessed God Father with white beard and globe as a symbol of domination, surrounded by the symbols of the evangelists Matthew (winged man), Mark (wingled lion), Luke (wingly bull) and John (adler). The third leaf shows the Christ bound to the cross, surrounded by two martyrs with palm leaves, the fourth the blessed Christ ascending into the sky over the clouds with the hand of God the Father. – Double leaf with lusciousness below, few holes, a little finger-spotty, also otherwise slightly stained, traces of usage, overall but good and in strong color.
