Schreiber 223. – Second Estienne edition of Appian's historical work, in which he mainly deals with Roman war history. With excellent printed Greek-Latin parallel text. "In this second edition Henri Estienne incorporated the Iberica and Hannibalica, which had not yet been discovered when the edition princesses was published. Estienne has also added 72 pages of very valuable annotations. – Weakly tanned and somewhat stained, otherwise beautiful and well preserved provenance copies from two important scholar libraries of the 18th century. In 1701, Johann Peter von Ludewig (1668-1743), a lawyer and historian who worked at the University of Halle, dated 1701 with his large-format exlibris of the coat of arms engraved by Johann Christoph Sysang on the interior mirror and his own property entry on the title verso. And the Leipzig historian Friedrich August Wilhelm Wenck (1741-1810), with his own property note also on the interior mirror, dated 1777.
