In terms of content, the collection reflects the discussion with Luther as a "controversial highlight in Erasmus' letters" as well as with Ulrich von Hutten; "out of the English humanist circle stands out alongside John Colet Thomas Morus" (ebenda); other important correspondence partners are Beatus Rhenanus, Ulrich Zasius, Johann Eck, Guillaume Budé, Jean Grolier, Georg Spalatin, Hermann von dem Busche and Konrad Peutinger. The issue is also important because Erasmus later made editorial interventions on the texts. – The two errata pages are missing.
