Fowler 396 – Handy "pocket edition" of the Vitruv in the editorial office of the famous Renaissance architect, engineer and scholar Fra Giovanni Giocondo (Frater Jucundus; c. 1433-1515) from the family Monsignori. In order to correct the "linguistic and terminological difficulties" of the partially Greek-printed text of the Vitruv, Giocondo has changed the text of Vitruve "to a great extent, some parts due to the manuscript; but far more according to its own conjecture" (Ebhardt), so that with the edition of Giocondos, which first appeared in 1511, there was for the first time a "reliable text" for whose understanding In particular, the "140 woodcuts of the work" (Kruft) contributed, which in this edition, however, are rendered smaller and more lizarded.
