"Gruter's (1560-1627) most important work... the huge collection of all well-known Latin and Greek inscriptions, in which the author of the helpful collector's zeal of his many friends was pleased" (NDB). The Dutch scholar Gruter was a librarian at the Bibliotheca Palatina in Heidelberg since 1602. The copper in strong, clear prints shows reliefs, statues, sarcophagus, inscriptions etc. Volume I with mounted quart print: C. G. Suke. The engraved final sheet of the Notae ac Senecae in Volume II is erroneously bound before sheet Nnnnn3.
