After an education as a sculptor and modeler with Wilhelm von Rümann in Munich, Albert Lauermann (1866-1953) founded his own art workshops in Detmold in 1890. In 1902 he invented the "Stuccolin" and the "Gipsoxylin", "which, unlike the classical formulations, contained parts of resin and thus received a previously unknown strength of breakage and lightness" (Wikipedia). He received an award for this at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative Art in Turin in 1902. Both materials justified the success of Lauermann's workshops as a globally active stucco shipper.
