See Graesse VI/1, 166. – Later Amsterdam print in the well-known text form, which was concerned with by the Scottish philologist Thomas Dempster (1579-1625), here in an improved and republished edition by Cornelius Schrevelius (1608-1661). The main work of the Eisenach theologian and longtime cathedral preacher in Naumburg Johannes Rosinus (1551-1626; actually Johannes Roßfeld) about the Roman Antiquities appeared first illustrated with woodcuts in 1583 in Basel and was later reprinted with additions by Dempster, most recently in Amsterdam in 1743. The most widely distributed edition is the last published in Rosinus' lifetime (suffering 1609). Treats among other things the topography of the city, sacral and antiquities, games, legal and war beings etc. The panels show different coins and medals, the two folding boards gladiator fights, and the folding plan the city of Rome. Rosinus owned an extensive library, which was sold by his creditors after his death because of outstanding debts. Remaining stocks were later destroyed by vagabunding soldiers (cf. ADB). – Interior mirror with stinged coat of arms exlibris. The folding plan with a slightly deeper closed crack. Well-preserved specimen.
