Engelmann 425 (named Voss as a publisher). – Probably the rarest publication of the important Baden architect of classicism Friedrich Weinbrenner (1766-1826). A good specimen with interesting provenance. Weinbrenner has repeatedly dealt with the design of monuments and one for Chr. M. Wieland and J. W. designed by Goethe (both demonstrably as lithographs; see Kat. F. Weinbrenner, 2015, p. 402ff.). A monument to Frederick II is available as a drawing (Cat. Revolution architecture No. 33). "The victory over the French army of war, in the battle of the peoples at Leipzig on 16 and 18 June. For me, as an artist, it was also an invitation to design a plastic monument." (p. 3), which, however, was not built. And since this victory had only become final through the Battle of Belle-Alliance, better known as Waterloo in Germany, Weinbrenner designed a monument for this. It should be placed at Waterloo and shows Europe on the bull accompanied by a goddess of victory, flanked by equestrian statues of Blücher and Wellington. It was not the winners on the battlefield but Europe as a whole that won the victory, a thought that was certainly progressive at the time. The panels show two floor plans, views from the front and one side, a longitudinal section as well as a perspective overall representation. – Title with fine pencil entry "Oberbaurat Weinbrenner", d.i. Adolf Weinbrenner (1836-1921), also architect in Baden and Großneffe by Friedrich Weinbenner. Cover inside with stamp "Rose Valdenaire", i.e. the daughter of the Baden architectural historian Arthur Valdenair (1883-1946), a student of A. Weinbrenner and author of the authoritative biography F. Wine burners. With lusures, slightly moist and kinky.
