First large testimony of the heyday of the art of medieval book painting from the Imperial Abbey of Benedictine monks in Echternach in Luxembourg, dating back to 1030-1050. In the magnificently decorated cork lid, numerous gemstones are used, including real gems such as emeralds, amethysts, smoke topazes and aquamarines. The remoulded ivory intarsia shows a crucifixion scene with Longinus and Stephaton in a precise replica of the Trier pompous lid. - With the commentary by R. Kahsnitz.
