The manuscript is one of the greatest works of Renaissance book painting. The book of hours of the Sforza, with its 203 illuminations in total, is characterized by the fact that the illustrations are not only from two different artists, but they have worked in two different countries and the two - between the beginning and completion almost 100 years - have probably never met. The work of Giovan Pietro Birago began, it was completed by Gerard Horenbout. The original owner was, because of coats of arms and inscriptions, Bona Sforza, the wife of Galeazzo Maria Sforz, who was Duke of Milan from 1466 to 1476.
