Description
Seton, Ernest Thompson. A group of seven autograph letters and twelve greeting cards to Eva Christy (‘Dear Eva’), discussing personal matters, often in a humorous tone, ‘The tear stained blessing of an outcast be upon you. I was in an awful fix. My tea was down to the last half leaf — without it daily, I die. I prayed for tea and prepared to exit. For what they sell here is poor anyhow + lo! the next morning the tea you sent came…’ with a small cartoon of a man holding aloft a teacup in celebration, (1 December 1891), sharing news of mutual friendships, ‘I am not writing to Bob or Gerald because I’m a low-down-cast-into-perdition sort of
hopeless malefactor and my name is MUD…’ (20 December 1892), and expressing sympathy for the death of her brother, Gerald Christy, ‘Please accept from Julie and me our deepest sympathy…’ (14 July 1944), with a further clipped signature from Seton, a postcard from an unknown author, and personalised greetings cards, mostly for Christmas, some with his distinctive ‘paw’ signature, 1891–1948, 265 x 181mm, or smaller. (21)
Note: Eva Christy (1869–1954) was a British equestrian and author. She was the younger sister of Gerald Christy (1865–1944) and Robert Miller Christy (1861–1928), both of whom were regular correspondents with Seton.
