The first is the first French edition of the extensive history of Louis de Boisgelin de Kerdu, one of the most complete synthesis dedicated to the island and the Order of St John of Jerusalem, published a few years after the fall of the Order and the English conquest. The second is the famous travel account of Patrick Brydone, reworked by Joachim Heinrich Campe, who contributed decisively to the spread of the image of Sicily and Malta to the European public, combining naturalistic observations, historical descriptions and vibrant travel impressions.
