[MALTA - SICILY]. Lot of three legal defences relating to the tax and judicial privileges of the Order of Malta in the Kingdom of the two Sicilies. Naples, 1774-1790. Interesting collection of three legal memoirs published in the Kingdom of Naples in defense of the Order's privileges. The works document some of the main legal disputes that involved the Order, from the protection of tax immunity to the recognition of patronage rights on ecclesiastical benefits. In particular, the two writings of Giandonato Rogadeo defend the Order's exemption from the payment of the adoes and quindennes, ancient tributes of feudal origin: the aoe were land taxes originally intended for the maintenance of the sovereign's military expenses, while the quindennia constituted periodic contributions burdening feuds, ecclesiastical benefits and corporations. The lot is completed by the memory of Francesco Valcarcel, dedicated to the defense of the Grand Priory of Barletta against the instrument of the royal patronage with which the Bourbon monarchy influenced the political and economic management of the priory headquarters ROGADEO, Giandonato.
