Collection of two official publications concerning the protection of the legal and patrimonial privileges of the Order of St John of Jerusalem in the Papal State. The first contains the apostolic letters of Benedict XIV with which the pontiff confirms and extends privileges, thanks and jurisdictions of the Order; the second documents a controversy discussed before the Sacred Congregation of the Good Government, supreme organ of the Roman Curia competent in the matter of financial administration and local communities, concerning the exemption of the order from charges chamber and community in Faenza, then belonging to the State of the Church. The two works represent a significant testimony of the complex system of immunity recognized to the Order in the second half of the eighteenth century. BENEDICTUS XIV (Pope).
