Malta: Mallia, 1784 The document is a decree of 12 July 1784 of the Grand Master and of the Sacred Council of the Order of St John of Jerusalem (Order of Malta) to officially define the prerogatives of the Ven. Turcopiliere, dignity belonging to the Language of England and responsible for the terrestrial defense of the island of Malta. The report reconstructs the current legislation through medieval statutes, decrees of the Sacred Council and especially the Bull of Niccolò V of 1448, establishing that the Turcopiliere exercises command over the guards, the Turcopolis, the Bandolieri and the Vigliacomiti, distributes the military services, gives the password, directs the inspections of the fortifications and oversees the troop discipline. The decree also reaffirms the relationship of subordination with the Grand Master and specifies the procedures for the appointment and suspension of officials employees, putting an end to previous interpretative disputes.
