Copy as a study of this first edition of one of the most significant works of the production of Giovanni Francesco Pico della Mirandola, nephew of the famous Giovanni Pico. Composed of open controversy with pagan philosophical culture and Renaissance skepticism, the Examen vanitatis represents one of the most articulated defenses of the superiority of Christian revelation over the wisdom of the ancients. The author subjected the main philosophical schools of antiquity to a close critical examination, contrasting their supposed vanity with the truth of Christian doctrine, according to an approach that exercised a remarkable influence on the religious thought of the sixteenth century. The edition also has a particular typographical interest, being one of only two books impressed in Mirandola. Folio (310 × 220 mm).
