Rare Lyon edition of the philosophical and moral verses attributed to Pythagoras and Focilides, appeared for the first time in print in the Aldin edition of Constantine Lascaris' Erothemata of 1494-95. The present text, with Greek text, Latin translation and commentary by the German humanist Veit Amerbach (1503-1557), was first published in Strasbourg in 1539. The collection includes the famous Golden Verses attributed to Pythagoras and the gnomic poem of Pseudo-Focilis. 8vo (170 x 108mm) Frontispiece in frame of typographical friezes, text in italic character with Greek text, translation and commentary in Latin (lightly burnished).
