Copy amended with manuscript notes and deletions according to the dictates of the Congregation of the Index of the work that revolutionized the chronological studies and laid the foundations of modern historical chronology. Through the systematic comparison of Greek, Latin, Jewish, Arab and Oriental sources, Scaliger developed an innovative method to harmonize the different calendars and systems of dating antiquity, making possible a more rigorous reconstruction of universal history. The De amendmente temporum exercised a decisive influence on philology, ancient history, numismatics and the history of science, imposing itself as one of the fundamental works of European erudition between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
