Rare and monumental work (a single passage in auction, RBH), final edition of the first large systematic encyclopedia produced in Germanic area. Johann Heinrich Alsted, theologian and philosopher, dedicated his activity to the construction of a universal system of knowledge based on the unity between divine knowledge and secular knowledge. The Encyclopaedia, conceived as an instrument of intellectual orientation and mnemonic organization, proposes a rigorous logical articulation of the arts and sciences, becoming a reference model for the classification of modern knowledge. The work exerted considerable influence on Comenio and, more generally, on the formation of the encyclopedic thought of Leibniz and Morhof, representing a fundamental stage in the history of European culture of the seventeenth century. 4 volumes, folio (375 × 240 mm). Antiporta with portrait of the author to the first volume; frontispieces in red and black with cartoons; illustrations and xylographic diagrams; specimen in beards (flowering and slight gore, sometimes extended). Waiting bonds in mixed cardboard, manuscript titles to the backs (some defects and small shortcomings). Origin: signatures of possession coeve to the frontispieces "Scipionis Paretiis (?) cav.
