BALDI, Camillo (1547-1634). De humanarum propensionum ex temperamento. [LEGATO CON:] De naturali ex unguium inspectione. Bologna: Bartolomeo Rossi, 1629. Rare first edition, not recorded in the auction passes (RBH), of two curious treatises of the philosopher and doctor Bolognese Camillo Baldi, dedicated to the study of human nature through the external signs. The De humanarum suspensionum ex temperamento analyzes the relationship between physical constitution, temperament and behavior, offering an articulated reflection on the psychological predispositions of the individual. The second treatise, De naturali ex unguium inspectione, deals instead with the diagnostic and prognostic value attributed to the observation of nails according to the ancient and Renaissance medical tradition. Professor of Logic and Philosophy at the Studio in Bologna for over sixty years, Baldi is today remembered above all as author of the Treatise as from a letter missiva they know the nature and quality of the writer (1622), considered the first systematic study dedicated to graphology. 4to (215 × 150 mm).
