[FUNERALIA] Great poster for the obituary of Elizabeth Gradonica. (Venice) 1795. Great funeral manifesto for Elisabetta, daughter of Giacomo Gradonico, belonging to one of the most illustrious families of the Venetian patrician. The text, composed entirely in Latin according to the model of the classical monumental inscriptions, recalls the virtues of the young and tells how, going to the spa of Abano (Thermarum Aponi usus) to restore health, was caught by sudden illness and died on August 25, 1795 at the age of twenty-seven. The epigraph ends by recalling that her husband, Francesco Miliari, Count Belluno, placed the monument "amidst tears" (uxori amantisimae cum lacrymis poset). The typographical obituaries of this kind, destined to be posted or distributed on the occasion of the funerals, are extremely rare and constitute a testimony of the funerary culture of the aristocratic families between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that resumes, in form and language, the humanistic epigraphic tradition.
