[LEGATURA]. Album of French engravings of the eighteenth century in ligature to the royal weapons of France coming from the castle of Choisy le Roi. [France, XVIII-XIX century]. Interesting eighteenth-century ligature in red Moroccan to the royal weapons of France, coming from Choisy-le-Roi, residence of the Crown purchased by Louis XV (1710-1774) in 1739 and particularly frequented by him. The title "Castor et Polux" on the back indicates that the ligature originally covered a specimen of the homonymous work, later re-used, in the first half of the 19th century, to accommodate an album of about 40 engravings mainly taken from french illustrated books of the eighteenth century. Among the artists represented are some of the main illustrators and engravers of the time, including Hubert-François Gravelot (1699-1773), Charles-Nicolas Cochin (1715-1790), Noël Le Mire (1724-1801), Charles Eisen (1720-1778), Pierre-Philippe Choffard (1730-1809), Daniel Chodwiecki (1726-1801); Nicolas de Launay (1739-1792), Clément-Pierre Marillier (1740-1808) and Jean-Michel Moreau (1741-1814). 4th oblong (240 × 330 mm). 18th century binding in full Moroccan red to the royal weapons of France, with crowned coat of arms engraved in gold to the plates, inscription "CHOISY LE ROI" in gold, back richly decorated in gold and title "CASTOR ET POLUX"; slight defects. Inside, album sheets from the first half of the nineteenth century on which are applied about 40 engravings, cartoons and culs-de-lampe coming mainly from french illustrated books of the eighteenth century.
