[NAPOLEONICA - RUSSIA]. Memorable Design, and Description of a Column Formed of Cannons Erected in Moscow...out of the Conquered French Artillery. [c.a 1812] Rare Celebrative Engraving (a single auction passage recorded in 2009, RBH) dedicated to the column, 92 arms high or about 50 meters, raised in Moscow by the will of Tsar Alessandro I (1777-1825), made by merging and assembling the more than 1200 cannons stolen from the Napoleonic army following the disastrous retreat of Russia in 1812. The engraving depicts the monumental column composed of the French artillery captured, accompanied by a large explanatory text arranged around the image and imprinted in three languages: English, Italian and Greek, as evidence of the desire to spread the celebratory message to an international audience.
