Interesting set of five original engravings by Jacques Callot which includes: Deux combats ou rencontres de cavalerie, pair formed by La rencontre à l'épée and La reconcontre au pistolit, with "Callot fecit" and "Israel excudit" conceived as a pendant and later associated with the Exercises militaires; Cap. Bombardon et Cap. Grillo, table 13 of the famous Balls of Sfessania, ca. 1621-1622, series of 24 tables designed during Callot's Italian stay, with the two grotesque figures of the Commedia dell'Arte in the foreground and a crowd of spectators in the background; Portrait du prince de Phalsbourg, great equestrian portrait of Louis de Lorraine-Guise (1588-1631), Prince of Phal'sbourg and Lixheim, depicted in armor on a soaring horse, with a battle in the background, coat of arms and dedicatory inscription in the lower margin; Les mourants sur le bord des routes, 1633, table 16 of the Grandes Misères de la Guerre, one of the images of the cycle dedicated to the consequences of the Thirty Years' War, with the French verses by Michel de Marolles (1600-1681) in the lower margin 5 etchings on wired paper, of different sizes.
