Coronelli, Vincenzo (1650-1718). Idea of the Universe. Venice, late 17th century. Great synoptic table dedicated to the structure of the universe and the foundations of astronomy and cosmography, taken from the famous "Atlas Venetian." Composed of two large engraved sheets intended to be joined, the table brings together a rich apparatus of astronomical and cosmographic diagrams, illustrating the perpetual calendar, the zodiac, the astrological correspondence between the zodiacal signs and the different parts of the human body, the eclipse theory and a section of the Earth including the representation of Hell according to the cosmology of Dante's Divine Comedy. Two sheets engraved in copper (485 x 700mm each) at large margins, illustrated with astronomical diagrams, cosmographic figures and decorative frame with heads of the winds, good conditions. (2)
