Exemplary coming from the library of Alessandro Manzoni (1785-1873), embellished with a double autograph dedication by Arrigo Boito (1842-1918), the future librettist by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901), and Giammartino Arconati Visconti (1839-1914): The dedication, especially in the same year of Manzoni's death, is a significant testimony of the relationship between the young protagonist of Scapigliatura and the great master of Italian literature. The second edition of the famous fantastic poem, defined by Boito himself as "the crazy thing" , King Bear represents one of the most original experiments of the poem. Through a fairy tale only apparently fantastic, the author builds a modern allegory of evil and violence, destined to become one of the most representative texts of the movement.
